Why Google and Apple will rule mixed reality

by Mike Elgan @ techconnect.com

The brilliant future of mixed reality will come to us from the likes of Microsoft and Magic Leap, according to the conventional wisdom.

Microsoft has grabbed mindshare with awesome demos of its Hololens product, like its Project XRay game demo at its October 2015 Windows 10 event.

Magic Leap, which has raised more than $1 billion from investors, has dazzled YouTube users with simulated experience videos.

The tech titan gave both Adobe and Microsoft a heads-up on October 21st — Adobe issued a fix on October 26th through a Flash update, but Microsoft hasn’t released one for its platform yet. The real problem is, according to Google, that unpatched Windows flaw is “being actively exploited.”

Open Microsoft Office files directly in Chrome

Just install the Chrome Office Viewer (Beta) extension, then clicking a link to an Office file will open it directly in Chrome. The Chrome Office Viewer also offers protection from malware delivered via Office files. A specialized sandbox is used to impede attackers who use compromised Office files to try to steal private information or monitor your activities.
